Stewart Cunningham Peddie began his medical education aged 25 years. His delayed entry was a result of childhood illness which interrupted his education at Christchurch Boys’ High School. Peddie graduated from the University of Otago, MB ChB, in 1942.
He undertook training in both New Zealand and Edinburgh and, upon his return to New Zealand, set up in private practice in Christchurch. Wright was visiting anaesthetist for the Christchurch Hospital Board until we was 60 years old, and then transferred to the North Canterbury Hospital’s blood transfusion service.
